Due: Brochure must be mailed by September 30, 2010

Each Kiwanis Club in the Kentucky-Tennessee District is encouraged to produce a club brochure.

A high-quality club brochure is an invaluable member recruitment and public relations tool and every club should have one.

The K-T District will sponsor a club brochure contest for the 2009-2010 Kiwanis year. First, Second and Third Place Winners will get awards at the 2011 District Mid-year convention or the Regional Mid-year conventions.

You can get help preparing this brochure from the Public Relations Department at Kiwanis International or go on line for assistance.

It is suggested that this brochure:

  • Tell the story of your club. Briefly explain Kiwanis International and serving the children of the world.
  • Explain your club, giving its name, the time and place of the meetings, and a brief history.
  • Stress that your club is international in scope and meets the needs of children in your community as its first priority.
  • List your projects and describe how your community benefits from Kiwanis.
  • Describe how Kiwanis benefits members and list expectations of members.
  • Provide the name of a contact person with phone number and mailing address.

For contest purposes, mail a copy of your club brochure to Tom Mattingly, 6715 Deane Hill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919 by September 30, 2010. The "best of the best" of the District brochures will be forwarded to Kiwanis International to be entered into the international contest.

Date of Contest: October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010

There is no entry form. To be considered in the judging, a club needs to send its bulletins monthly or, preferably, quarterly to Tom Mattingly, 6715 Deane Hill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919.

The purpose of the contest is the same as that stated by Kiwanis International: "To stimulate interest in upgrading club bulletins; to build morale among bulletin editors; and as a result improve this prime source of Kiwanis communication."

Judging will be done according to the size of the club on October 1st. The winner in each category on the District level, will automatically be entered in the International Club Bulletin Contest by the K-T Bulletin Contest Chairman. Awards will be presented at District Convention.

The criteria for judging will be the same as that used by Kiwanis International, which is as follows:

  • Is the bulletin regularly issued?
  • How is the space used?
  • Is it attractive?
  • Is it readable?
  • Is it interesting?
  • Does it contain items of Local, Division, District & International interest?
  • Does it hold readers interest?
  • Does it promote pride in Kiwanis?
  • Does it have a good format?
  • Does it recognize club achievement?
  • Is it so designed that it can carry out its three most important functions:
    1. Maintain member morale and enthusiasm;
    2. Encourage meeting attendance;
    3. Inform the membership fully on club activities and projects.

If you have an electronic newsletter, upload it to K-T News Central.

Although the following are not involved in the Bulletin Contest, it is very important that the following people be on your Club Bulletin Mailing List for each issue of your bulletin.
